On Pitt Day of Giving Day 2021, the Department of Economics won the Dean’s Challenge because 78 donors gave to the Economics Undergraduate Research Fund! Engaging with faculty on research projects is one of the best ways for students to learn, not just economics, but also learn how to approach complex problems, think analytically, and write effectively. Employers and graduate schools recognize this and, as a result, students who have engaged in research as an undergraduate tend to place better in graduate schools and in the job market. Furthermore, undergraduate research opportunities have been shown to help retain and increase the graduation rate of first-generation and minority students.
