Sungwan Hong

Sungwan Hong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. His research lies at the intersections of international trade, macro-spatial models, and environmental and energy economics. His recent work has examined how trade and environmental policies affect global welfare, the energy transition, and regional disparities. He also studies how belief formation and aggregate uncertainty shape migration and trade responses to shocks in dynamic spatial economies.

He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Penn State University in 2025. He also holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Tokyo and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Seoul National University.
